Day 363: G-Eazy with "Almost Famous" (Music Video)

A dope concept for this music video; gotta check this out. It was put together really well.

Get familiar with G-Eazy tho. Hope he doesn't turn into a Mackelmore.

Day 361: Band to watch for in 2014 - London Grammar

I only recently heard about London Grammar from sifting & researching through all the music out there, and am very much feeling their sound. I'm glad I got them in my playlist now because I have a feeling they're going to make themselves known in 2014, so I'm getting familiar at a good time. As you can also tell, I'm really starting to adore bands with an awesome lead vocalist these days which sound so much better live from my experiences so far.

Take a listen to London Grammar on their soundcloud and if you like then purchase their recent album "If You Wait" right here.

Day 360: In my playlist - "Chosen" by Blood Orange (Audio)

This track by Blood Orange gives me some feelings of nostalgia; takes me back to when I was a kid always listening to 80s jams and soft rock my parents would always played on the radio. Maybe that's why this track clicks in my head so well.

I've been listening to Cupid Deluxe recently, and I gotta say there's a lot of great tunes on the album. It's up on Spotify, so stream it and take a listen.

Day 359: A$AP Nast bringing 90s hip-hop back with "Trillmatic" ft. Method Man

Any collab with Method Man is an instant hip-hop hit, so kudos on this A$AP Nast. Got that 90's era feel to this beat & track as a whole. Digging this track a lot.

Day 358: Stuck in my head: "Cherry" by Chromatics (Music Video)

I heard Schoolboy Q's new single "Man of the Year" recently, and did some digging on the sample because it sounded so amazing. To my surprise, it was taken from this track by Chromatics which have been heavy in my playlist rotation lately. I was lucky enough to catch Chromatics live a few months back when they opened up for the xx. I really need to see them live again.

Stream Schoolboy Q's "Man of the Year" after the jump.

Sunday, December 1, 2013

Day 357: Mixtape on blast - "Blue Chips 2" by Action Bronson & Party Supplies

Really feeling the New York vibe with the entire mixtape. Such a dope collabo between Action Bronson & Party Supplies. This mixtape deserves two thumbs up and then some. Gotta take a listen to it.

Stream the mixtape after the jump...

Day 356: In my playlist - "Drop Coups" by Nipsey Hussle (Audio)

"Every time my shit drop,
Victory for hip-hop;
Never mind my title, I’m the up and coming Michael.."

Been listening to Nipsey Hussle's recent mixtape Crenshaw, and gotta say it has a lot of dope tracks if you're into that real/raw westcoast style of hip-hop. Coming from Cali and living in LA, I'm definitely on Nipsey's music.. as you should too.

Take a listen to "Don't Take Days Off" right here. Another fav from the mixtape.

Thursday, November 28, 2013

Day 355: Have you heard? Jeni Suk - Parables (Music Video)

Jeni Suk has been in my radar as of recent months, and I've started to take a liking to her amazing vocals and skills behind her own production. She's also from my hometown of Cupertino, so that in itself makes her that much more talented to be able to build her fanbase up to where it is today coming from a small/suburban town in the bay. Much props to her, and I really see her going somewhere with this.

Get a copy of 'Parables' at Jeni's bandcamp page here. Support good music.

Monday, November 25, 2013

Day 354: James Franco & Seth Rogan with their version of "Bound" (Music Video)

If you've seen Kanye's recent music video "Bound 2" he released on the Ellen show then take a second to watch this version created by the oh-so-funny James Franco & Seth Rogen.

Watch the side-by-side comparison of Kanye's video vs James Franco/Seth Rogen's version after the jump.

Friday, November 22, 2013

Day 353: What's in my playlist? French Montana ft. The Weeknd - Gifted (Music Video)

"I'm gifted when I'm faded,
I'm faded all the time;
Because I know that's when they love me,
They love me when I'm high.."

A nice collabo between French Montana x The Weeknd. I'm not a big fan of French but The Weeknd definitely puts a lot of his flavor into this track, which is why I'm hooked on this chorus.

Thursday, November 21, 2013

Day 352: Have You Heard? Erik Hassle - Talk About It (Music Video)

I've been trying to get into the emerging artist scene lately as I feel there's so much undiscovered talent that needs to be discovered by the world. Anyways, I stumbled on this track yesterday by Erik Hassle that really catered to my ears. Been on repeat.

Really feeling the emotion behind this one, and the beat & lyrics flow together so well. Great production overall too. So smooooth.

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Day 351: Have You Heard? Sohn - Bloodflows + Lessons (Music Videos)

Just went to check out Sohn at the Echo in LA last night, and I'm really impressed with their overall sound, amazing vocals, and emotion put behind their lyrics. This band is definitely someone you want to pay attention to. The main vocalist has a sort of Weeknd-esque type of feel to his voice & lyrics.

"Lessons" after the jump..

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

Day 350: Hooked on Banks - "This is What it Feels Like" (Music Video)

Really diggin this track from Banks right now.

Found out tix to her LA show at the Hollywood Cemetery went on sale last Friday for $25, and it's sold out. Now, they are close to $100... wtf. Freakin' hate it when re-sellers buy out tix just to mark them up. This is what it feels like..

Thursday, November 7, 2013

Day 349: ASAP Ferg - Work Remix (Music Video)

Posting this track b/c I'm definitely putting in work this week. It's always so dam busy in the Fall; the one thing I hate about this part of the season.

On another note, this is a dope remix nonetheless. Been bumping this for a minute.

Tuesday, October 29, 2013

Day 347: Have you heard? Flatbush ZOMBIES ft. Action Bronson - Club Soda (Audio)

Listening to this track reminds me that I gotta research and listen to more music going on in NYC though. Sometimes you just get stuck listening to what's on your regular playlists or what you know from your area, you know? Personally, I'm gonna expand my music radar, especially in the New York scene.

This is a good one by Flatbush ZOMBIES featuring Action Bronson. From the mixtape "Better Off Dead" you can listen to right here.

Monday, October 28, 2013

Day 346: Today's Mood - "Life Changes" by Casey Veggies (Audio)

"Still lost, still here,
No past, don’t care about looking back anyway,
Nothing matters anyway;
‘Cause I’m still lost, still here,
No past, don’t care about looking back anyway,
If I’m moving on it anyway."

I mostly try to listen to whatever can keep me in a positive mindset, and this does it for me. I can totally relate to the mood & feeling of this track. A sorta oldie but goodie from one of my fav emerging rappers from LA, Casey Veggies. Listen to his full mixtape "life changes" that came our earlier in the year right here.

Day 344: TDE Cypher from BET Awards 2013 - on another level (Video)

Been hearing about Kendrick's verse since they taped this for the 2013 BET Award show, and here it is today. Sounds so much sweeter than when people were just talking about it. West coast, stand the fcuk up!

Day 343: Need to go cop Pusha-T's new album "MNINM"

I heard Pusha-T's new album MNIMN on MySpace the other day, and ohhhh boy this album is gooood (to say the least). Can we all say Pusha-T is baaaack? I'm definitely going to cop (aka actually buy) this album, which is out today.

My top tracks from the album: King Push, Suicide, 40 Acres, Nosetalgia, Pain, and S.N.I.T.C.H.

Wednesday, October 2, 2013

Day 342: Danny Brown - "Old" Album Stream (Audio)

Just took a listen to Danny Brown's new album "Old" on Spotify the other day, and started taking a liking to it. The trappy tracks really caught my attention along with 25 Bucks ft. Purity Ring.

Still need to listen to it more to get more familiar with his sound on this album, but so far so good. Check the Spotify album stream after the jump.

Thursday, September 26, 2013

Day 341: New Bassnectar Mixtape (Audio)

Day 340: On My Radar - Denetia and Sene (A Brooklyn Duo)

Heard this track a few months ago on a DJ mix, but couldn't find out who the artists were until now. Now that I know who Denitia and Sene are, I will be following them very closely. Such great production on the track with the horns in the background, up-beat drums, and smooth vocals.

A bit of background on them (quoted from their website here):

"Brooklyn-based musicians came together a year ago with a shared vision to bring truth and ingenuity to stylistic music, and they’ve held their ambitions high ever since. Simple. Rare. Sumptuous. Bold. They’ve been influenced by a range of sonic proclivities. Thus, their work is distinguished not by genre, but attention to free verse, and the magic that transpires between darkness and light. It’s film noir for audiophiles – chic, hip and alluring – and together, they have broken down personal limits to forge a bond surpassing all expectations."

I hope they can travel to LA sometime so I can check them out live, otherwise I'll need to plan a trip to NYC soon.

Day 338: TNGHT (Hudson Hohawke x Lunice) - Chimes Live (Old 2012 Video)

Just went to Hard Summer in LA to get my trap fix. Gotta say tho TNGHT and Flosstradamus were my top two favorite sets from the festival, so I had to feature this dope beat a friend sent me. Enjoy.

Thursday, August 1, 2013

Day 337: Joey Bada$$ with "Reign" (Music Video)

"Dreamin' big never been odd to me..."

Finally got around to listening to Joey Bada$$'s recent mixtape, Summer Knights, and kept this one on repeat #PROERA

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Day 336: Airplane Boys with "Young Kings" (Music Video)

Have much respect for these d00ds (APB) because they put in so much energy in every track and have a good sense of art in their music. There's a lot of emerging talent coming from Canada lately, and these d00ds should not be overlooked. #BeauMonde

Thursday, July 25, 2013

Day 335: The Underachievers - "The Mahdi" (Music VIdeo)

I know this is kind of old, but I've been bumping it non-stop lately. Really hopeful for these guys: The Underachievers.

I think it's b/c it reminds me of hip-hop from back in the 90s; taking some sample sounds from 93' til Infinity. Can't wait to hear more from these d00ds.

Monday, July 22, 2013

Day 333: Kavinsky ft. the Weeknd - Odd Look Remix (Audio)

Dope collabo: Kavinsky x Weeknd#repeat

Sunday, July 21, 2013

Day 332: Jhené Aiko covers 2Pac's "Keep Ya Head Up" (Video)

Jhené Aiko has been in my radar for a minute but I feel like her time to blow up in the mainstream is coming soon. She's got such amazing vocals and has been collaborating with more & more big names #OntheRise

Don't forget to check her out at Rock the Bells.

Tuesday, July 9, 2013

Day 330: "New Slave" remix by Hit-Boy - "New Chains" (Music Video)

For some reason, Hit-Boy's version of this song sounds way better than Yeezy's. This beat bumps regardless though.

Thursday, July 4, 2013

Day 329: Wale ft. Meek Mill - Heaven's Afternoon (Audio)

Forgot about Wale's album, The Gifted, when Yeezy, J. Cole, Mac Miller, Action Bronson, and Statik Selektah's new music all came out. Don't sleep on this one.

Happy 4th everyone! If you can't get a hold of Hova's album, MCHG, then I strongly suggest you check that one out. Str8 fire.

 photo run-the-jewels-kil-featuring-big-boi-banana-clipper_zpsb98dff49.jpg

With so much music coming out lately, I've been so lost in the shuffle but I'm glad one of my homies reminded me about this one. If you like hard/raw/trappy type of music then you'll like the El-P's beats.

Monday, July 1, 2013

Day 327: DJ Drewbyrd x Lexdray City Series Mixtape (Audio)

Been listening to the homie Drewbyrd's mixtape for a minute b/c it's got all the right jams. Take a listen and just vibe.

- Kendrick Lamar

Day 323: Coachella 2013 - A Weekend in Paradise California (Photos) photo blog_zps6dd59302.jpg

I know this is really late but just wanted to mention that I had a blast at Coachella a few weeks ago and took lots of pictures of the awesome scenery from a what I call a "Weekend in Paradise California".

Taking pictures and learning how to use photoshop is a hobby of mine, so what best way to put my camera and photoshop skills to the test. Check out my photos from that weekend after the jump and let me know what you think.

Day 322: Sometimes I lose my mind.. - Terminology with "Situations" (Audio)

"You know the moral of the story is,
never change, if you do, make sure you win;
take care of your kids, never be a hater,
and save your paper, you can't feed everybody..."
- Terminology

From all the work and stress I've been dealing with for the past few months, there's always new songs that put me in a relaxed mood and this is definitely one of them. I'm all about smooth beats and uplifting lyrics that have some good common sense behind the messaging. I love underground hip-hop for this exact reason. Saigon is another one of my favorite underground rapper that speaks some real shit; check him out sometime.

Go grab Terminology's recent mixtape, Hood Politics 7, on right here.
It costs $FREE dollars.

Day 321: Jurassic 5 live at Coachella - Epic performance (Video)

Finally found the video stream of Jurassic 5's set at Coachella. I wish I was closer for this one but at least I got to experience them live one last time.

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Day 320: Favorite performance from Coachella 2013 - the xx (Video)

There wasn't much hip-hop really at Coachella this year so I came to the festival with an open ear.

Despite seeing some dope hip-hop acts though (J5, Action Bronson, Wu-Tang; sorry I missed Pusha T & Earl the Sweatshirt, and F*&^% 2Chainz), I gotta say the xx turned out to be my favorite performance of the weekend. Their cover of Aaliyah's song "Hot Like Fire" is pretty creative and insanely smooth.

I actually purchased the xx's last album, Coexist, when it came out, and became a fan since then. After seeing them perform live, it made me like them even more. They are truly talented as artists and all-around musicians. It's hard to find many artists with such a creative style and unique sound w/o copying or sampling from someone else these days. When you hear the xx, you know its them and only them.

Overall though, I had a blast listening to so many new artists I've never heard of. Fun times, Coachella; you amazed me.

Day 316: Today's Mood - Relax to some Nosaj Thing x Toro Y Moi

Nosaj Thing and Toro Y Moi are an amazing duo on this collaboration. I feel like they were meant to make music together as their styles mix so well. The combination of synth sounds with the soft finger-snapping and vocals make it one of those tracks that can put you to sleep.

Toro Y Moi will be performing at the Fonda Theater this weekend for all those in LA, which I might have to go see. In the meantime, I'm going to get a bit more familiar with his music.

Check out a cool track by Toro Y Moi after the jump...

Saturday, February 23, 2013

Day 315: Kendrick Lamar x Drake with "Poetic Justice" (Music Video)

"If I told you that a flower bloom in a dark room would you trust it"
- K-dot

This has got to be my favorite song from Kendrick Lamar's recent album, GKMC, featuring Drizzy. I think this is my 3rd blog post about this song but whatever.. it's that dope. That Janet Jackson sample got me hooked too.

Day 314: The Airplane Boys flying back in the radar - "Brave New World" mixtape

 photo cd493596-e537-4abf-919f-a8f5dcfac8aa_zps36b32368.jpg

Gotta support the dynamic duo from Toronto, The Airplane Boys. They have such a unique vision & style with their music, fusing up-tempo hip-hop with new generation types of sounds and beats. I really like the direction they are going with this mixtape. Very artistic and full of energy.

Go download the free mixtape right here, or take a quick listen & check out the stream after the jump...

Day 313: "Started from the Bottom" - Drake (Music Video)

Drake has pretty much perfected the formula for catchy phrases and hard drums. So, so catchy.

Thursday, February 7, 2013

Day 312: A very inspiring bball documentary - "10,000 Hours" (Video)

Episode 1:

This is a really interesting bball documentary that caught my attention, which is about two young Asian ballers from the Bay Area who put themselves through intense workouts to improve their game in hopes of one day of getting into the NBA. Yeah, it looks like they have a long journey ahead but the takeaway is this: it's all about realizing what your dream is no matter what people say and what's stacked against you. At the end of the day, you'll never find out if that dream was possible w/o putting in the work & being fully dedicated in becoming better. That means never giving up and never losing focus.

I love playing the game of basketball even though I'm not that great, but after watching this documentary I'm determined to find ways to work on my game and maintain my body in good bball shape. I wish I could have their coach put me on the right track, or I might just have to move back to the bay for a little bit and find him, haha.

I would've never found out about this if it wasn't for one of my bball homies, so s/o to J.Cov for showing me this one. He helped out with Episode 3 so check that out. More episodes after the jump...

Sunday, January 27, 2013

Day 311: Kendrick performing 'Poetic Justice' on SNL (Video)

Kendrick Lamar pretty much owned the stage on SNL last night, performing one of his smoothest track called Poetic Justice (from GKMC). I see Terrace Martin in the back adding his flavor to the mix with his saxophone skills. Mad talent up on stage.

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Day 310: Remember when 'Life Changes' - A new mixtape from Casey Veggies photo life-changes-2_zpse804e17e.jpg

There has been some crazy news taking storm in 2013 (ex. Manti Te'o catfish scam, gun shootings everywhere, Lance fakestrong), and it's only January... at least we can rely on music to keep us at peace! On that note, Young Casey Veggies just came out with a new 13-track mixtape called "Life Changes" featuring his LA-counterpart Dom Kennedy and a few others.

It's got some really chill tracks on there. Check the free album stream after the jump...

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Day 309: It's 2013, time get on that new LVL, ASAP - Long.Live.A$AP

I've grown to be a big fan of Clams Casino's beats since I heard "I'm God", so off the bat "LVL" has become one of my favorite tracks from A$AP Rocky's debut album Long.Live.A$AP (out now). I've only just begun listening to a few tracks so I have some catching up to do, but in the meantime this is gonna be on repeat for a while.

Get his new album on itunes here, A$AP.

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

Day 308: Big noise from Big Boi - 'In the A" ft. T.I. & Ludacris (Music Video)

If there was an "In the BAY" remix, I'd like to see E-40, Clyde Carson, and Locksmith (the lyrical assassin!) get together on this.

If an "In L-A" remix was made, I'd like to see these three on it: Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle, and Dom Kennedy; str8 fresh 2 death trio right there.

Let's see this happen fellas... rep yo city!

Btw, check out Big Boi's recent album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors if you haven't already. He's come a looooong way since he started Outkast in 92' with Andre 3000. Gotta love the style he brings to the table; still going on strong too. Overall, his new album is pretty legit to me.

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

Day 307: Check the aPROcalypse Mixtape for you 90's Hip-Hop babies

First and foremost, Happy New Year to everybody out there! Hope the Mayans didn't kidnap you and y'all are still alive =x

So, I finally checked out the recent mixtape that came out during the holiday break called aPROcalypse which features Joey Bada$$ and his Pro Era crew. I've only listened through about half of the tracks and I'm already impressed with the sounds & samples used, lyrical vocab, and overall production of these tracks. If you thought the 1999 mixtape was dope, well then you'll be excited for this one too.

Peep this mixtape ASAP if you grew up listening to 90s Hip-Hop. This will definitely have a tune for your ears #TRUSTME

On another note, still can't forget about the sad news regarding Capital STEEZ... more info about that here. May he RIP #RIPCapitalSTEEZ

Check a live stream of the aPROcalypse mixtape after the jump...
