Day 131: For The Underground Heads - Kendrick x Dom x Murs (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com

Whenever I feel like I need to chill-out, I tune my beats down and listen to a song like this:

Kendrick Lamar - She Need Me (Remix) ft. Dom Kennedy & Murs

- Alt Audio Link

This song has been stuck in my playlist for a while now, so I just had to put it on blast b/c it's soo dope. The original version was created by Kendrick Lamar but adding in Dom Kennedy & Murs really gives this song that true underground feel, and the beat is maaad chill too. A really nice collaboration if you ask me..

Here's the original if you wanna take a listen:

Together, we are rollercoastin..

Day 98: A dope song by The Game & Wiz - Taylor Made (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com

The Game - Taylor Made featuring Wiz Khalifa
<<< 2/10: Sorry guys, I had to remove this. If you didn't get a chance to listen to it then I'm sure you can find it elsewhere =( >>>
- Alt Audio Link 2/08: Removed, sorry guys =(

This track is str8 fiiiiiiiire! My guess is while Wiz Khalifa was in Cali collaborating with Snoop & doin his thang around LA, he probably stopped by The Game's pad and crunched out this dope song before he left to Pittsburgh to perform at the AFC Championship game last weekend. Awesome job with this one.

I'm just happy to see The Game is finally back on the scene again with some new music, and hopefully he'll come out with his new album sometime soon called The R.E.D. Album. He said his album is "95% complete" but he still hasn't set a release date, so we'll just have to wait... :\

If you liked that track above and are a fan of The Game then check out the Purp & Patron mixtape right here.

Day 97: Chillin Playlist for the week - The Game, Nas, Wiz, 1982, Show Tufli (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com

Lately, my mind & body has been flat-out exhausted from a million things to do and I'm not getting much sleep these days either, which is why I just can't get into any loud/uptempo/party music right now.

On that note, I think it's a good time to take a step back from all that and mellow out to some super chill beats. Here are some recent songs in my current playlist that help put me in a calm mood and will keep me at ease through these busy weeks:

The Game - I'm The King

- Alt Audio Link

Wiz Khalifa - Star Of The Show

Nas - Who Are You [Tags]

- Alt Audio Link

1982 - Money Is Reality featuring Action Bronson

- Alt Audio Link

Show Tufli - Jap Scene

- Alt Audio Link

These songs start off more mainstream-ish and move underground as you get to the bottom songs. I hope everyone can find a song here they can "WOO-SAH" too.

Day 88.5: Light one up to some new Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com

Wiz Khalifa & Snoop Dogg have one main thing in common: they love to smoke all day, every day. On that note, here's a super chill song they both made while doing what they love. I'm going to call this the new "smoke sess" anthem, so before you spark one play this song ;)

Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa - That Good

- Alt Audio Link

Snoop & Wiz the new Cheech & Chong...

Day 84: Jay Electronica in a Mtn Dew commercial (Video)

I just saw this Mountain Dew commercial from a friend's post on faecbook, so I had to put it on here because I thought it was pretty cool how it gives people a glimpse of what Jay Electronica is about. I'm happy to see that he's getting more exposure these days as this d00d has mad talent as an artist, and it's about time he jumped into the spotlight.

As some of you may have heard, Jay Electronica has been getting more of a buzz lately after he stepped away from working with good friend Sean "Diddy" Combs and signed under Jay-Z's label Roc Nation in early November. I think this was a good move for him & his music as I'm thinking if he signed with Diddy then his music would turn into "Diddy's music" and about what Diddy wants, you know what I mean?

For those who haven't heard of Jay Electronica, here's a song he came out with right after he signed with Jay-Z (sort of his official stamp to signing with Roc Nation). Check it out if you haven't heard it already:

Jay Electronica - Shiny Suit Theory ft. Jay-Z & The Dream

- Alt Audio Link

Listen to his lyrics; he's a good story-teller. Totally diggin this beat too...

Day 83: Merry Christmas beats (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com
- Picture courtesy of Nike: MVP Puppets

In light of the holidays, I just wanted to share with everybody some recent hip-hop Christmas songs I found. This song below has a very wholesome beat. Check it out:

Kanye West - Christmas in Harlem ft. Cam'ron, Jim Jones, Vado, CyHi Da Prynce, Pusha T, Musiq, Teyana Taylor, & Big Sean

- Alt Audio Link **Removed

1982 - Christmas in Boston ft. Kali, Reks, JFK, & Teyana Taylor [*another version for you Boston residents]

- Alt Audio Link **Removed

Here's another Christmas rap I thought I'd share in the spirit of the holidays. Brought to you by the MVP Puppets (this is old so I'm sure everybody has seen this before):

- One twoo, one twoooo...

That reminds me.. the Miami Heat vs LA Lakers game is on today! It's going to be very interesting to see all the matchups. Let's see if the Lakers can hold up the Heat on their homecourt. If I'm going to root for a team, I'm rooting for Miami.. GO HEAT!!

Hope everybody is having a Merry Christmas!

Day 67: Poppin' Bottles with T.I. & Drake (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com

At first, Drake & T.I. went "Fancyhuh on Drake's recent album, Thank Me Later. Now, T.I. & Drake are back at it again and "Poppin' Bottles" for T.I.'s upcoming album called No Mercy set to be released on December 7th. Check it out:

T.I. - Poppin' Bottles featuring Drake (Produced by T-Minus & Boi-1da)

- Alt Audio Link

This song is straight fiiiiiiiirrre, the beat is just too dope, and you also get to hear the street-side of Drizzy-Drake (none of that singing stuff!). The lyrics may be too explicit for some, but it works for me!

Heard it here first: buckmarleyxxx.com

Day 65.5: It's Friday Night! Time to check out some J. Cole (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com

In light of the J. Cole performance I'm about to check out tonight in the Bay Area, I just want to share with everybody some of his new tracks so you can get a taste of the good music I'm about to witness live. Here are some of my favorite songs from his recent mixtape called "Friday Night Lights":

J. Cole - In The Morning featuring Drake

- Alt Audio Link
- Slow jam type of song

J. Cole - You Got It featuring Wale

- Alt Audio Link
- This song is very upbeat

J. Cole - Blow Up

- Alt Audio Link
- This song just bumps

J. Cole - Back to the Topic (Freestyle)

- Alt Audio Link
- He got some tight rhymes in this song

Just to let you know, J. Cole is an up & coming hip-hop rapper & also a producer of most of his own music, which is something that's very difficult to do by one person. This guy has mad talent & a dope rap style, and I can't wait to check out his performance tonight!

TGIF peoples & I hope everyone is enjoying their Thanksgiving break!

Day 62: When bad meets evil again! Eminem & Royce da 5' 9" - The baddest duo (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com/

Eminem & Royce da 5' 9" are back at it again on a new track called "Living Proof." This song reminds me of how they used to collaborate back in the days: keepin it real and not giving a f*** about what they say but at the same time dishing out the rawest lyrics. Check it out (may not be suitable for everyone):

Eminem - Living Proof featuring Royce da 5' 9"

- Alt Audio Link

I'm happy to see them working together again; just like when they both were beginning to emerge onto the hip-hop scene. At a point in time, Eminem went on a different path with his crew, D12, and became THE top rapper of our generation with the help of Dr. Dre.

Royce, on the other hand, did his solo thing for a while and sort of just stayed in the underground scene. Last year, he got together with other lyrically-talented rappers and formed the group called Slaughterhouse, which helped him reconnect with Eminem again. I'm not sure if Eminem reached an agreement to sign the group yet, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be a done deal soon.

I can't wait to hear more from these two. The bad & the evil.

Day 59: Time to chill to the sounds of David Banner & 9th Wonder (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com/
- 9th Wonder (left) & David Banner (right)

9th Wonder came through with another sik beat as usual, and helped produce an awesome track for David Banner called "Be With You" featuring Ludacris & Marsha Ambrosius.

This is a very mellow song that has such soothing sounds of various band instruments used in the beat. It makes me want to just kick back & relax with my headphones, and really puts me in a cheerful mood as it has a happy vibe throughout the entire song. Check it out and listen for yourself:

David Banner & 9th Wonder - Be With You ft. Ludacris & Marsha Ambrosius

- Alt Audio Link

FYI, David Banner & 9th Wonder are coming out with an album together called "Death of a Pop Star" which is set to be released this December 21st. I'll be keeping tabs on this album now as I'm sure it's going to be filled with a lot of quality tracks since 9th Wonder is on the collaboration.

Is it me or is there just too much good hip-hop music out this year?

Day 55: Saigon meets Mario & "Gets Busy" (Video)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com/

Saigon is amongst one of my favorite underground rappers who has the craziest wordplay with his flows and always spits that RAW raps (just like Royce da 5' 9"). Some of his songs are RAW as in.. well it's too explicit for me to explain, but he has some songs that are RAW as in music you can take away a good message from. That's why I like a lot of underground hip-hop (with everything else I listen to) because it has that real flavor from the vocals right down to the beat, lyrically has more substance in which people can level with, and it's the type of music you can just nod your head & get down to.

Anyways, here's a fun song with a Mario-themed beat from Saigon who comes up with a Mario rap suitable for everyone. He can rap about just anything and make it sound cool, so here you go:

Saigon - Get Busy

Saw it here first: Nahright.com

This song reminds me of this classic by an old underground artist named "Benefit" who raps over a similar Mario beat:

Benefit - Warp to World 6-9 (The Mario Rap)

- Alt Audio Link

I can still remember the day I got my first Nintendo & played Mario for days. Good ol' days of being a kid!

Day 43: Who the heck is Sam Adams? (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com/

So, I was listening to this internet radio station today and heard a pretty cool song from this guy named Sam Adams called "Living the Dream." I didn't know who this d00d is or where he came from, but it looks like he became an "itunes internet sensation" earlier this year with the song "I Hate College (Remix)," which is a byte off of Asher Roth's song "I Love College." Anyways, here's the track that caught my attention for you to listen to:

Sam Adams - Living The Dream:

- Alt Audio Link

I've listened to a few other tracks he's made, and it sounds like he's going after the mainstream/party audience as he mostly raps to house/techno sounds & uptempo beats. If you're a fan of house & techno then you might like his other music.

Personally, I need to hear more substance in his songs other than just party music before I can give him props. For now, I'll say this song is aiite but that's it. Don't get me wrong though, I do like to party =P

Day 42: Freestylin with Skillz (Video)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com/

I got to meet Skillz at an event this past Summer called Heineken Inspire as he was there MC'ing alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff. I chatted with him real briefly, and he seemed like a very humble & chill d00d. On that note, he told me he was coming out with an album this Fall and it's called The World Needs More Skillz, which is set to be released on October 26th.

Skillz is well known to be very crafty with his lyrics. Check out this freestyle "cypher" segment of him, which aired last week during the BET Hip-Hop Awards:

FYI, Skillz is also known to come up with an end of the year freestyle wrapping up the top headlines in the hip-hop world, so I'm sure he'll do the same for this year too. To give you another glimpse of how dope he is lyrically, here's the freestyle he came up with "wrapping up" 2009:

Skillz - 2009 Rap Up:

Too sick.

Day 36: Ice Cube keepin it OG in da West (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com/

Born & raised in the streets of LA, Ice Cube has been reppin the West since he was a lil boy and is still holding it down to this very day. Although he's been MIA from the music industry for a long time now (last album in 2008), he recently just came out with an album called "I Am The West" which was released on Sept. 28th.

In this album, he continues to keep his music "hood" with his flows and spits over some raw & funky beats. I've listened to a few songs from the album and let's just say that I haven't heard anything that can be played on the radio because of the "explicit-ness." I still like a few tracks on there though and here are some that caught my ear:

Ice Cube - Man vs. Machine
*Audio removed (Sorry everyone but I had to take this down)
(Diggin the piano & violin incorporated in the beat)
- Alt Audio Link (iTunes bonus track)* <<< added to my favorites *Link removed =(

Ice Cube - Pros vs. Joes

Alt Audio Link (iTunes bonus track)*    *Link removed =(

Ice Cube - Drink The Kool-Aid

I'm off to Vegas so "today's gonna be a good day." Have a good weekend! Deuces.

* 1/11/11 Update: I had to remove all the audio links but I'm sure you can listen to those songs elsewhere..

Day 34: It's Gucci Time! Plus Estelle & more (Audio)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com/

I've been noticing Gucci Mane poppin up on a lot of featured songs lately, which makes sense because he just came out with an album on Sept 28th called "The Appeal: Georgia's Most Wanted." Although he's been through a lot of hardships and much trouble with the law, he's been doing some good with the music he's been putting out. I'm not a big fan of Gucci Mane yet, but he's got a few dope tracks for all types of hip-hop goers.

Here are some recent tracks that have caught my attention:

Gucci Mane - Grown Man featuring Estelle (Produced by Wyclef Jean)

(Type: For the mainstream listeners & the ladies too. Everyone can enjoy this one)
- Alt Audio Link

Gucci Mane - Gucci Time (Produced by Swizz Beatz)

(Type: For the club-heads & party-goers. It's Gucci Tiiime!)
- Alt Audio Link

Sean Garrett - She Geeked featuring Tyga & Gucci Mane

(Type: For the badasses. Might be too explicit for some and has such a raw beat)
- Alt Audio Link

Day 33: Get Cocky & Arrogant with Off-Rip (Audio & Video)

This is a pretty cool song called "Cocky & Arrogant" by a Detroit native named Off-Rip featuring two other dope ass rappers from the group Slaughterhouse, Joe Buddens & Royce Da 5' 9". I don't know much about this d00d Off-Rip, but anytime you can get Royce on the track makes it worth listening to. Here's an audio link if you don't feel like loading the video:

Day 28: Kick Back With Some J. Cole

http://daysofj.blogspot.com/

I've been keeping an ear out for J. Cole recently as there's been a growing buzz about him, which is about to get bigger real soon. He's supposed to come out with his first official debut album called "Cole World," which is scheduled to be released this October 26th so I'll be all over that when it does come out. He's also going to begin a Fall tour throughout the U.S., so below I've listed the dates when he will be performing in Cali for those of us in the West:

- Thursday, 10/07: Hayward, CA
- Saturday, 11/20: Los Angeles, CA

In case you're not familiar with him, check out some of my favorite tracks he's done or has been featured in:

Miguel - All I Want Is You featuring J. Cole

- This song is pretty mainstream now and has such a laid-back beat that everyone can vibe to

J. Cole - Who Dat

- This song is just a banger! Need I say more?
