Day 248: Nike "Flight Night" Event at the Montalban Rooftop (Events)

- Dunk of the night by a d00d name "TRUE"

2-25-12 (Hollywood, CA) - I had nothing better to do Saturday evening, so I went to check out this Nike "Flight Night" event with my homie Rex4000. It was a chill event full of shoe displays, a live 3pt shooting and dunk contest (in light of NBA All-Star Weekend), and a performance with some LA natives, Casey Veggies and Dom Kennedy.

It was a cool performance but it didn't seem like a performance at the same time. Felt more like an audition because it was just Casey & Dom up there with their DJ (Drewbyrd), but all n all it was still dope.

More coverage and a video of Dom & Casey performing "CDC" right here >>> UNCVR

12-15-11: Mad props to my homie J.Li for hooking me up with access to this private Adidas event with performances by the "New West" below:

>>> Casey Veggies, YG, Dom Kennedy, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, and a special appearance by Terrace Martin

I also want to send a s/o to my homie DrewByrd who was dj'ing all night, spinning the classic Bay/LA hits that got the crowd going. I can remember from way back when he first began dj'ing, and just seeing where he is today goes to show you that hard work does pay off. Man, I'm so proud of you homie  #nohomo

Such an awesome showcase of the new generation in the WestCoast. The only direction is up from here.. #stayfresh

Day 237: Jay-Z live at "Watch The Throne Tour" in Staples Center LA (Events)

12-12-11: I got a chance to go see Jay-Z and Kanye West while they were in LA last Monday on their Watch The Throne Tour. Above is a video I took of one of my favorite Jay-Z tracks from a while back called "Dirt Off Your Shoulders"

This was probably one of the dopest concerts I've been to so far: great transitions from song to song, awesome stage & lighting/special effects, and they did all their top hits from past to current (solo & together).

The sh*t did get cray at the end of the show as (that day) they set the record of doing that song ("N*ggas in Paris") 9 times in a row. I laughed for a bit that they actually did it but I went with it anyways. Song is mad catchy and easily energizes the crowd.

Here are a few good pics I took:

How can you not be amazed when you see these two together in the same building? #EPIC

Day 225: araabMUZIK performance at the Mondrian Hotel in LA (Events)

11-11-11 (Hollywood, CA): I was running a bit late but managed to catch the tail-end of an awesome MPC performance by one of my favorite beat-makers, araabMUZIK #MVPofMPC

araabMUZIK is known for his mad skills on the MPC (obviously) and he also has a great sense for hip-hop music/beats as well as the electronic stuff, which makes him an even more talented & well-rounded musician. I don't think anyone is even close to doing what he does on the MPC live... lemme rephrase that... no one can do what he does on the MPC.. LIVE.. PERIOD.

Afterwards I got to chat with him real quick, and I gotta say he's really cool & humble in-person. Hopefully the next time we meet, it won't happen because I'm a fan but because I'm ready to collaborate.

Day 202: Rock the Bells - Where Hip-Hop stays true and is still alive (Events)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com
- Nas on stage performing..

8/20/11 (San Bernadino, CA): So, I wasn't sure if I was going to go to Rock the Bells this past Saturday but luckily I was able to get one of my good music homies to come out with me.

I left LA pretty late so I didn't get to enjoy RTB to it's fullest but I managed to check out a bit of Erika Badu & Mobb Deep, saw Nas peform, and ended the cold night with some Lauryn Hill. Yea, it was freakin cold cuz I was wearing a T-shirt & shorts expecting it to be super hot over there. #wardrobefail

Anyways, here's a video I took of one of my new favorite songs by Nas & Common called "Ghetto Dreams." Chekkit live right here:

======================================================

http://daysofj.blogspot.com
- Still a lot of Hip-Hop fans here as you can see...

Regardless of missing a lot of performances during the day, I'm grateful I was able to go & enjoy live Hip-Hop and be surrounded by Hip-Hop heads for once. It seems like they're hard to find around here in LA since everybody around me listens to that electro/dub-step sh*t, or maybe I need to start looking for them...

Day 158: Slaughterhouse @ HoB in Hollywood, CA - Recap (Videos)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com

5/31/11 - Hollywood, CA: This past Tuesday, I went to go check out my favorite & THE most lyrically-talented hip-hop group called SLAUGHTERHOUSE!! The show was #EPIC

Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, and Royce da 5' 9" each have their own unique rap style when they spit on the mic, and whenever they get in the zone they can spit some real crazy/raw sh#t. Their music is definitely not for everybody, but if you are truly a hip-hop head then you'll appreciate their music for what it's for & how they present it as an artist; not necessarily by the literal content of what they rap about.

Besides Slaughterhouse, there is no other real hip-hop group out there like them these days, period.

Here are some videos I took at the show:

Royce da 5' 9" - Fast Lane (ft. Eminem - not shown)

Joe Budden - Sober Up ft. Crooked I

Slaughterhouse - The One

#HipHopatitsFinest

Props to my homie J.Li for hooking me up & coming with me to the show.

Day 130: Snoop Dogg Album Release Party Recap (Pics + Videos)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com

3/31/11 (Hollywood, CA): I was very fortunate to get access to Snoop Dogg's album release party @ Trousdale, and to sum it all up: I had a Blast! =P

This party obviously was meant to celebrate the release of Snoop's recent album, Doggumentary, which by the way has a variety of mainstream/thumpin/laid-back songs made for any type of hip-hop/music lover. It doesn't matter if you're heavily into hip-hop or not, just get it. Reppin for that West!

The party had such a cool vibe and I even got to see a few celebs like Nicki & Paris Hilton, Warren G, and a few others (I was pretty drunk so I forgot to pay more attention.. SUE ME!). Anyways, I was able to take some nice videos & pics of the party below:

- Just warming up the crowd..

- PLATINUM! This song is a banger!

I got a few more pics in my album right here.

Mad props to my homie J.Li for hookin me up with this one yo!! FYI, more coverage on my homie's LA blog: Uncvr. Check it out!

Day 128: Dub Car Show in LA - Part Deuces - My Pictures! (Events)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com
- No! Tickets are still not on sale! =P

Sorry for being a bit sloppy with this post but I didn't want to crowd my last one with too much stuff.

Anyways, I got some nice pictures @ the Dub Car Show of a few awesome cars, briefly saw Cain Velasquez (he's not as big as I thought but still a dangerous man!), photographed Jeri Lee's beautiful body of art (or I tried!), and captured some moments from the performances.

As you can see, I'm a n00b at using photoshop but I'm trying to learn new tricks.. For now, enjoy!

Day 127: Dub Car Show in LA - The Game, Lupe Fiasco, & more: Live Videos (Events)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com
- Tickets are not on sale FYI...

3-27-11 (Los Angeles, CA): This past Sunday me and my friend went to check out the Dub Car Show not for the exotic cars, beautiful models, sik custom rides, & more gorgeous models, but for the LIVE PERFORMANCES!!

It was a pretty awesome line-up with a long list of rappers including DJ Quik, Nipsey HussleWaka Flocka Flame, Layzie Bone, and others, but I was really just looking forward to seeing The Game & Lupe Fiasco!!

I gotta say each performance was a bit short & the audio/set-up wasn't that great, but being that I'm a big music enthusiast I still enjoyed seeing my favorite artists up there. Here are some videos I took of the main performances:

- The GAAAAME! G-UNOT!

- Waka Flocka started going into the crowd cuz he's one hoOod @$$ ngga! Not sure what he's rappin tho..

- Two of my favorite classics by Lupe Fiasco: "Hip-Hop Saved My Life" & "Kick Push" !!

I got a few more videos of the live performances by The Game & Lupe Fiasco on my Youtube Channel right here: DaysofJ28 chekkit! =D

One last thing, I just gotta give a shout-out to my homie Rex4000 for hookin me up to this event. If it wasn't free then I probably wouldn't have came, so mad props yo!

Day 113: My NBA All-Star Weekend - D.Rose signing, Pictures, & More! (Events)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com

All was crackin this past weekend with NBA All-Star Weekend happening in Los Angeles, CA this year.

Since last Thursday, there have been so many NBA players making live appearances for the fans all over the place from the Fox Hills Mall, 3rd Street in Santa Monica, the Beverly Center, and more. There were also mad club parties each night hosted by various NBA players and so many celebs/rappers everywhere making special appearances too, but I wasn't able to get access to any of those parties so boo... =(

My one highlight of the weekend was that I did get to see one of my favorite NBA players, Derrick Rose. I got real lucky when I got to see him because the day before his appearance I found out that you needed a wristband to see him. They only handed out 150 of those wristbands and luckily I got one of them.. I waited 2 hours to get that wristband but it was so worth it.

I didn't have a jersey for him to sign so I got the next best thing.. his new shoes: the Adidas Adizero Rose 1.5. Freakin awesome bball shoes btw! I got pics below:

I got a few more pictures in my album right here (mostly just sneakers & displays):

NBA All-Star Weekend: Los Angeles

Lastly, I just want to say the best part of NBA All-Star Weekend wasn't the NBA player appearances, totally not the exciting dunk contest Blake Griffin owned, and not even the All-Star game itself. The best part was actually the half-time performance by Rihanna! (I hope you know I'm being sarcastic but Rihanna did have an awesome performance tho, haha!)

In case you missed it, I got it right here:

Day 110: Grammy Weekend pt.2 - G.O.O.D. Music Afterparty (Events)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com

2-13-11 (Hollywood, CA): Sunday night, my friend invited me to go check out the G.O.O.D. Music Grammy afterparty and all I gotta say is that it was "superfun!"

So, the party was at a loungy spot called "supperclub" which was overall pretty nice inside & out. We saw a few familiar G.O.O.D. Music faces like Big Sean, Pusha T, and some others. It was kinda cool chillin inside and seeing how they party live. Everybody was having a good time, the DJ was playing some dope beats, and the scene was pretty... well just pretty ;)

Here's a video that my homie took of the event:

- Video by Rex4000 (someone got tackled out of nowhere.. real random & crazy!)

I also got some pictures I took from that night:

Day 109: Grammy Weekend - Roots Jam Session by Hennessy (Events)

http://daysofj.blogspot.com

2-12-11 (Hollywood, CA): There were a lot of fun events going on in LA due to the Grammy's that happened this past weekend, and I just so happened to check out one of them: The Roots Jam Session presented by Hennessy Artistry.

This was such a chill event mixed with a plethora of musical performances at a very classy venue (The Music Box). So many different artists performed and I couldn't remember all their names, but luckily my homie gave me the 411:
Jimmy Fallon (host), Bobby McFerrin, Sara Bareilles, Ryan Leslie, Ne-Yo, Chuck Brown, Estelle, Betty Wright, Chaka Khan, Lalah Hathaway, Melanie Fiona, Taj Mahal, Booker T, Too $hort , Marsha Ambrosius, Donnis, Young Chris, Asher Roth, Blu, Anthony Hamilton, Raheem Devaughn, Trombone Shorty, Craig Robinson X THE ROOTS!!
I definitely had to take advantage of all the Hennessy I could, but stopped at one point because I was getting too buzzed and was losing focus on my goals: checking out the art displays, listening to good music, watching the live performances, and taking awesome pictures with my new Cannon S95 =)

Props to my homie Rex4000 for hookin me up with this one. Also, I wanna give a shout-out to his other blog site about the LA lifestyle & more right here:

Last but not least, here are some pictures I took of the event:

I had such an awesome time from beginning to end.. Mad props to The Roots & Hennessy for setting this up.
