Day 361: Band to watch for in 2014 - London Grammar
I only recently heard about London Grammar from sifting & researching through all the music out there, and am very much feeling their sound. I'm glad I got them in my playlist now because I have a feeling they're going to make themselves known in 2014, so I'm getting familiar at a good time. As you can also tell, I'm really starting to adore bands with an awesome lead vocalist these days which sound so much better live from my experiences so far.
Take a listen to London Grammar on their soundcloud and if you like then purchase their recent album "If You Wait" right here.

Day 360: In my playlist - "Chosen" by Blood Orange (Audio)
This track by Blood Orange gives me some feelings of nostalgia; takes me back to when I was a kid always listening to 80s jams and soft rock my parents would always played on the radio. Maybe that's why this track clicks in my head so well.
I've been listening to Cupid Deluxe recently, and I gotta say there's a lot of great tunes on the album. It's up on Spotify, so stream it and take a listen.

Day 358: Stuck in my head: "Cherry" by Chromatics (Music Video)
I heard Schoolboy Q's new single "Man of the Year" recently, and did some digging on the sample because it sounded so amazing. To my surprise, it was taken from this track by Chromatics which have been heavy in my playlist rotation lately. I was lucky enough to catch Chromatics live a few months back when they opened up for the xx. I really need to see them live again.

"Every time my shit drop,
Victory for hip-hop;
Never mind my title, I’m the up and coming Michael.."
-Nipsey
Been listening to Nipsey Hussle's recent mixtape Crenshaw, and gotta say it has a lot of dope tracks if you're into that real/raw westcoast style of hip-hop. Coming from Cali and living in LA, I'm definitely on Nipsey's music.. as you should too.

Day 355: Have you heard? Jeni Suk - Parables (Music Video)
Jeni Suk has been in my radar as of recent months, and I've started to take a liking to her amazing vocals and skills behind her own production. She's also from my hometown of Cupertino, so that in itself makes her that much more talented to be able to build her fanbase up to where it is today coming from a small/suburban town in the bay. Much props to her, and I really see her going somewhere with this.
Get a copy of 'Parables' at Jeni's bandcamp page here. Support good music.

"I'm gifted when I'm faded,
I'm faded all the time;
Because I know that's when they love me,
They love me when I'm high.."
A nice collabo between French Montana x The Weeknd. I'm not a big fan of French but The Weeknd definitely puts a lot of his flavor into this track, which is why I'm hooked on this chorus.

Day 352: Have You Heard? Erik Hassle - Talk About It (Music Video)
I've been trying to get into the emerging artist scene lately as I feel there's so much undiscovered talent that needs to be discovered by the world. Anyways, I stumbled on this track yesterday by Erik Hassle that really catered to my ears. Been on repeat.

Really diggin this track from Banks right now.
Found out tix to her LA show at the Hollywood Cemetery went on sale last Friday for $25, and it's sold out. Now, they are close to $100... wtf. Freakin' hate it when re-sellers buy out tix just to mark them up. This is what it feels like..

Day 347: Have you heard? Flatbush ZOMBIES ft. Action Bronson - Club Soda (Audio)
Listening to this track reminds me that I gotta research and listen to more music going on in NYC though. Sometimes you just get stuck listening to what's on your regular playlists or what you know from your area, you know? Personally, I'm gonna expand my music radar, especially in the New York scene.
This is a good one by Flatbush ZOMBIES featuring Action Bronson. From the mixtape "Better Off Dead" you can listen to right here.

Day 346: Today's Mood - "Life Changes" by Casey Veggies (Audio)

No past, don’t care about looking back anyway,
Nothing matters anyway;
‘Cause I’m still lost, still here,
No past, don’t care about looking back anyway,
If I’m moving on it anyway."
I mostly try to listen to whatever can keep me in a positive mindset, and this does it for me. I can totally relate to the mood & feeling of this track. A sorta oldie but goodie from one of my fav emerging rappers from LA, Casey Veggies. Listen to his full mixtape "life changes" that came our earlier in the year right here.

Day 340: On My Radar - Denetia and Sene (A Brooklyn Duo)
Heard this track a few months ago on a DJ mix, but couldn't find out who the artists were until now. Now that I know who Denitia and Sene are, I will be following them very closely. Such great production on the track with the horns in the background, up-beat drums, and smooth vocals.
A bit of background on them (quoted from their website here):
"Brooklyn-based musicians came together a year ago with a shared vision to bring truth and ingenuity to stylistic music, and they’ve held their ambitions high ever since. Simple. Rare. Sumptuous. Bold. They’ve been influenced by a range of sonic proclivities. Thus, their work is distinguished not by genre, but attention to free verse, and the magic that transpires between darkness and light. It’s film noir for audiophiles – chic, hip and alluring – and together, they have broken down personal limits to forge a bond surpassing all expectations."
I hope they can travel to LA sometime so I can check them out live, otherwise I'll need to plan a trip to NYC soon.

"You know the moral of the story is,
never change, if you do, make sure you win;

- Terminology
From all the work and stress I've been dealing with for the past few months, there's always new songs that put me in a relaxed mood and this is definitely one of them. I'm all about smooth beats and uplifting lyrics that have some good common sense behind the messaging. I love underground hip-hop for this exact reason. Saigon is another one of my favorite underground rapper that speaks some real shit; check him out sometime.

Day 320: Favorite performance from Coachella 2013 - the xx (Video)
There wasn't much hip-hop really at Coachella this year so I came to the festival with an open ear.
Despite seeing some dope hip-hop acts though (J5, Action Bronson, Wu-Tang; sorry I missed Pusha T & Earl the Sweatshirt, and F*&^% 2Chainz), I gotta say the xx turned out to be my favorite performance of the weekend. Their cover of Aaliyah's song "Hot Like Fire" is pretty creative and insanely smooth.
I actually purchased the xx's last album, Coexist, when it came out, and became a fan since then. After seeing them perform live, it made me like them even more. They are truly talented as artists and all-around musicians. It's hard to find many artists with such a creative style and unique sound w/o copying or sampling from someone else these days. When you hear the xx, you know its them and only them.
Overall though, I had a blast listening to so many new artists I've never heard of. Fun times, Coachella; you amazed me.

Day 312: A very inspiring bball documentary - "10,000 Hours" (Video)
Episode 1:
This is a really interesting bball documentary that caught my attention, which is about two young Asian ballers from the Bay Area who put themselves through intense workouts to improve their game in hopes of one day of getting into the NBA. Yeah, it looks like they have a long journey ahead but the takeaway is this: it's all about realizing what your dream is no matter what people say and what's stacked against you. At the end of the day, you'll never find out if that dream was possible w/o putting in the work & being fully dedicated in becoming better. That means never giving up and never losing focus.
I love playing the game of basketball even though I'm not that great, but after watching this documentary I'm determined to find ways to work on my game and maintain my body in good bball shape. I wish I could have their coach put me on the right track, or I might just have to move back to the bay for a little bit and find him, haha.
I would've never found out about this if it wasn't for one of my bball homies, so s/o to J.Cov for showing me this one. He helped out with Episode 3 so check that out. More episodes after the jump...

Day 308: Big noise from Big Boi - 'In the A" ft. T.I. & Ludacris (Music Video)
If there was an "In the BAY" remix, I'd like to see E-40, Clyde Carson, and Locksmith (the lyrical assassin!) get together on this.
If an "In L-A" remix was made, I'd like to see these three on it: Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle, and Dom Kennedy; str8 fresh 2 death trio right there.
Let's see this happen fellas... rep yo city!
Btw, check out Big Boi's recent album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors if you haven't already. He's come a looooong way since he started Outkast in 92' with Andre 3000. Gotta love the style he brings to the table; still going on strong too. Overall, his new album is pretty legit to me.

Day 307: Check the aPROcalypse Mixtape for you 90's Hip-Hop babies
First and foremost, Happy New Year to everybody out there! Hope the Mayans didn't kidnap you and y'all are still alive =x
So, I finally checked out the recent mixtape that came out during the holiday break called aPROcalypse which features Joey Bada$$ and his Pro Era crew. I've only listened through about half of the tracks and I'm already impressed with the sounds & samples used, lyrical vocab, and overall production of these tracks. If you thought the 1999 mixtape was dope, well then you'll be excited for this one too.
Peep this mixtape ASAP if you grew up listening to 90s Hip-Hop. This will definitely have a tune for your ears #TRUSTME
